Kennametal India appoints Santanoo Medhi as Managing Director

42 year old Medhi holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Regional Engineering College, Calicut and thereafter a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He also holds a Diploma in Management from the University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong.

Kennametal India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Kennametal Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of tooling, engineered components and advanced materials consumed in production processes, today announced the appointment of Santanoo Medhi as Managing Director of the company with effect from April 24, 2010. Commenting on Medhi’s appointment, M N Bhagwat, Chairman, Kennametal India Limited, said, “We are excited to have Medhi lead our operations and are confident that under his leadership Kennametal India will scale new heights. His diverse ability and rich cross cultural & multi disciplinary experience that spans several countries & functions including manufacturing, sales, marketing, business development and general management will be critical in steering the company to the next level and beyond”.

In his role Medhi will have responsibility for all of Kennametal India’s businesses - metalworking solutions, engineered products and special purpose machines. Besides he would also guide operations of Kennametal Shared Service Pvt. Ltd., a captive Centre of Excellence of Kennametal, which provides global support in the realm of IT Applications, SAP Consulting, Product Engineering & Design and Global Sales Order Processing. 42 year old Medhi holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Regional Engineering College, Calicut and thereafter a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He also holds a Diploma in Management from the University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong.

Medhi joined Kennametal in January 2009 as Regional Director–Sales, for the Asia Pacific region, based out of Singapore. In September the same year he assumed charge as Interim President of Kennametal India Limited. Prior to this Medhi worked with Oil India and Johnson Electric, Hong Kong.
