" IPVS : Conglomerating the pumps-valves industry under one roof "

IPVS

Q. How big is the Pumps & Valves Industry and what do you foresee is the market in future?
The Indian economy is the second fastest growing economy in the world - next only to China. Its all-round growth is catalysed in all vital sectors such as Oil and Gas, Power generation, water handling/sewage treatment, infrastructure development, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc. Pumps, Valves and Process Plants Industries are the key industries which are integral to all these sectors and therefore its growth is largely dependent on these sectors. The global market for Pumps is said to be about  $47 billion, with a growth rate of  4.4 % per annum.
The same are more or less identical for Industrial valves. By and large the Indian pump manufacturers have traditionally catered to the needs of domestic market. The domestic industry today is in fact looking up for overseas opportunities and quite a few have also made a good impact in the international scenario. Indian pump exporters have managed to have a presence in the Middle East and African countries, where standards and conditions are similar to those prevailing in India.

Q. What has been the role of IPVS in influencing the Pumps, Valves and Process Plants Industries in India?
IPVS  has provided the much needed boost for the growth of Indian Pumps, Valves and Systems as it showcases advanced technologies in these sectors, from around the world, every year. With 3 successful hostings IPVS has proved to be India’s first and biggest trade fair of its kind. It is probably one of the biggest in Asia too.  IPVS has had 3 consecutive and successful hostings till date. It has brought together manufacturers and buyers on a common platform which was missing earlier. Almost all leading technologies in the field of Industrial pumps and valves around the world have been in India since many decades. Many others, realising the importance of having a base in India, are streaming in. Such base is important not only for a share of the growing Indian economy, but also for catering to their global market share from cost-effective, technically competent, congenially communicating marketing set-ups, manufacturing plants and R&D centres. Since all these activities were  largely scattered and unorganised, there was a pressing need for a solid common platform to showcase technological advances and explore new markets. IPVS succeed in filling this niche.

Q. What has been the industry’s response to IPVS ?
With a comprehensive range of 1000-plus products on a single platform, the number of exhibitors and visitors has been growing steadily. The 2007,2008, 2009 hosting of IPVS saw 325 exhibitors  and visitors of which  were from overseas including countries  like India , Australia , China , Damascas , Germany , HongKong , Iran , Japan , Korea , Malaysia , Pakistan , Russia , Singapore , Sri Lanka , Taiwan , Thailand , Tunis , Turkey ., UAE , USA. The Indian exhibitors included majors like (Kirloskar, Grundfoss,  Ingersoll-Rand, Atlas Copco.) exhibited their products in the past events.   Around 10,000 business visitors of which 1000 comprised overseas ones, represented assorted sectors like power, oil exploration, pharmaceuticals, energy resources, fertilisers, health & hygiene products and the like. IPVS conferences also attract prominent overseas speakers.  Every year, we expect  IPVS  to set new benchmarks, as well as  lay the platform, for the great lift off for the Indian pumps and valves industry.

Q. How will  IPVS 2010 be different and what measures have you undertaken to grow brand IPVS?
Spurred by the success of earlier shows, IPVS 2010  will definitely be bigger and better with much more to offer. With larger number of manufacturers from many more countries participating this year, brand IPVS  is a winner amongst trade exhibitions in the engineering segment in general, and pumps, valves and process systems in particular.  IPVS enjoys the  support of many associations prime being  Euro Pumps, Holland Pump and All India Association of Industry. In addition, we have undertaken an aggressive marketing and promotion stand with mailers for exhibitors, Road Shows and press campaigns. We have appointed overseas agents and have  tied up with several leading national and international magazines with an eye towards promoting brand IPVS at a global level. Coverage by renowned International magazines like Delta P ; 3R and several Indian magazines like engineering Review ; IPVR etc will ensure that the event receives international exposure.

Q.Who are the exhibitors you are looking at and how would they benefit?
For IPVS 2010 we expect manufacturers of pumps, valves, process systems, foundries, components of valves, forge shops, actuators, gaskets, packings and sealants, research institutes and the like. This time we are confident of roping in more overseas exhibitors since India is a burgeoning market for Industrial Pumps, valves and systems. The Indian pump industry alone is worth 1200 crores. So IPVS 2010 will undoubtedly provide a single point contact for potential buyers not only in India but from the world over.

Q. And visitors ?
They would ideally be decision makers and representatives from the end user sectors like oil and gas, power, water handling/sewage treatment, infrastructure development, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and so on. They can benefit hugely as they will be accessing the world’s latest technologies in Industrial Pumps, Valves & Systems, a comprehensive range of over 1000 products under one roof and the opportunity to forge business ties with some of the leading names in the industry.

Q. Finally, what are your expectations from IPVS 2010?
Like I said earlier, IPVS 2010 will definitely be bigger and better with a lot more international flavour in terms of exhibit profile and visitor turnout.
