SCADA : Gaining the recognition in process technology Usually controlling these processes is simple, involving measuring flows or temperatures, monitoring alarms, opening or closing valves, turning motors on or off, opening or closing switches, and adjusting set points on controllers located near the process.While this control is simple, it is usually very important.Also, the speed with which we respond to information about these processes is not critical the response time is not urgent. Wireless telemetry : The new wave Fifteen years ago, even the more advanced automation systems seldom used wireless telemetry. And if they did, the data throughput was low and rarely provided the coverage necessary to link all remote sites. As a result, the usefulness of the technology was limited when monitoring only a portion of the sites remotely was possible. Process instrumentation cabling : Adopting the right approach Modern digital instruments prove to be more sensitive to noise and interferences when compared with the old analog instrumentation devices. In addition, modern control systems are also more sensitive to any signal distortion when compared with old single loop controllers. Ambient conditions may require that the gauge be isolated from temperature extremes Controlling resonance in pump systems Resonance in a mechanical system is a vibration of high amplitude caused by a relatively small stimulus of the same period as the natural vibration period of the system. In other words, it is the vibration that results when any object composed of an elastic material is subjected to its "natural" vibrational frequency. Bearing replacement: Adopting the right technique The process of dismounting bearings can be a hazardous and demanding task often involving powerful forces, and care must be taken not to damage other machine components, such as the shaft or housing. No matter how tempting, operators should avoid using welding torches or hammer blows to dismount a bearing. Acceleration head for centrifugal pumps If a centrifugal pump is started with the discharge valve open too far and with a low discharge pressure, the liquid in the suction line may accelerate at a rate that causes the suction pressure to drop below vapor pressure. In other words, you can cause cavitation by allowing the pumpage to accelerate too rapidly in the suction line.
