Technology exhibitions  week 2010: The venue where innovation meets industry

Technology Exhibitions Week offers an opportunity to share views and bounce ideas off other professionals, tap into a wealth of knowledge and assess the potential of groundbreaking technology, transact business and, above and beyond,  drive home the crucial importance of investing in innovation. The event, to be held at fieramilano-Rho from 4 to 7 May 2010, brings together BIAS, Biennial International Automation, Instrumentation, Microelectronics and ICT for Industry Exhibition; Fluidtrans Compomac, Biennial International Fluid Power Transmission and Mechatronics Exhibition and Mechanical Power Transmission & Motion Control, Biennial International Mechanical Transmissions, Motion Control and Mechatronics Exhibition.

Investing in innovation is arguably the trump card for industries that want to remain competitive in the market. It’s the surest way to deliver value added to their clientèle and, for the mid-term, to turn round business performance.  That’s why the four-day event will draw to Milan managers, technicians, engineers, manufacturers, procurement officers, to a lineup of world-class exhibits in an environment that nurtures interaction, continuing learning and appraisal of the more efficient and performing solutions to invest in and be thus ready to latch on economic recovery. In short, a major save-the-date for the domestic and international business and engineering communities.

TEW offers an opportunity to size up the big picture of products and solutions tailored for the main branches of industry in a single, highly-specialised context where people can share ideas and tap into the know-how of experts and analysts from a vast range of industries, as well as from academe and R&D. It is the one venue where to comparison shop for cutting-edge technology for countless branches of industry, spanning automotive, mechanicals, food, energy, earth-moving machinery, chemicals and petrochemicals. The spectrum of trailblazing solutions and applications offers industry upgraded performance, dependability, machinery safety, energy saving and efficiency. In addition, TEW will coincide with Xylexpo, the biennial world exhibition dedicated to woodworking technologies and furniture supplies, which is to be held in the adjoining halls. This coincidence will enable trade visitors to optimize returns on time and cost of their business journey. First experimented in 2008, this team-up proved highly beneficial in facilitating a flux of qualified visitors from a branch of industry that is one of the principal end users of the exhibits showcased at TEW.

Themed Islands
Interchange of ideas and circulation of know how call for a suitable and focused environment. That’s why TEW 2010 has designed themed islands where visitors can meet and specific issues are subject to in-depth examination, thanks to the presence of the principal companies of the industry, trade associations and R&D.

Alongside the standard lineup of exhibits, the islands will feature continuing learning sessions of under an hour throughout the day and focused on key issues of the moment:

  1. Innovation for Industry, placing the emphasis on innovation and projects in mechatronics
  2. T&M - Test & Measurement and the challenges of industry instrumentation in production and laboratories
  3. Energy Saving and Efficiency, with in-depth surveys on components, techniques, systems for energy efficiency in production facilities, complete solutions in automation and electronics, mechatronics and fluid power.

The themed islands will have the feel of freestanding areas where visitors can access technology innovation designed for their industry of interest and get a chance to sharing knowledge not only with industry technicians but also with R&D engineers.

TEW shows : Overview
Fluidtrans compomac, the Biennial International Fluid Power Transmission and Mechatronics Exhibition, is Italy’s topmost show for this industry and ranks as Europe’s second largest. There’s just no other venue in Italy that  offers a more comprehensive picture of fluid power industry, spanning hydraulic and pneumatic components,  techniques and technology for compressed air treatment and use, as well as vacuum technology, fluids, analysis and control instrumentation, engineering and calculation software.  This highly specialised showcase lines up applications for the main branches of manufacturing and process industries.

Mechanical power transmission & motion control, Biennial International Mechanical Transmissions, Motion Control and Mechatronics Exhibition, is expressly dedicated to mechanical transmission and motion control. The fair showcases products, systems and applications that deliver to any number of industries higher energy and production efficiency, enhanced performance, dependability, machinery safety and environment friendliness. BIAS, Biennial International Automation, Instrumentation, Microelectronics and ICT for Industry Exhibition, boasts a 50-year reputation as Italy’s foremost show for this industry. It is the must-go event for manufacturers, engineers, technicians and procurement officers seeking the right class of high-tech solutions and applications that will give their business the competitive edge.

Learning program
In addition to the focused sessions programmed at the islands, the shows feature tutorials and workshops organized in co-operation with the main trade associations of the industry. The AIPI - Italian Society of Industrial Engineering Designers – responded again to the invitation to organize the award-giving ceremony for the International Leonardo da Vinci Award. The Award aims to emphasize the role of industry engineers by honouring persons who signally applied their inventiveness to the advancement of industry and it also pays tribute to agencies or companies that have incisively contributed to the dissemination abroad of products engineered in Italy. On May 5, ANIPLA, the Italian National Association for Automation, will hold a seminar on Human Factors in Industrial Process Control, to examine the role and importance of human factors in the successful and, more crucially, unsuccessful direction of industrial processes. Many surveys of incidents over the years have shown time and again how staff appointed to run or supervise processes react improperly to events because they are prompted by a series of psychological impulses that can hardly be ascribed to merely mechanical factors. That is why engineers designing control/supervision systems are increasingly requested to focus in particular on the human factor. The seminar will address the main aspects of the issue, illustrated by case studies and by a number of projects applicable to industry.

AIS-ISA organizes within the ambit of BIAS a roundtable on Wireless Instrumentation in Process Installations, an examination of the status of dissemination of this new technology, featuring the views and assessments of engineers and end users. Still within the show, the association will also hold the meetings of District 12, in the presence of the delegations of ISA associations in Europe and the Middle East. Still within the ambit of the show, in the forenoon of Thursday 6 May, the International Statistics Committee (ISC),  fluid power industry’s international Statistics Commission, will hold its meeting in the presence of the delegates of CETOP, the European Committee of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Transmission, which groups 17 countries and 18 European associations of the industry  (Belgium-FIMOP, Finland-FHPA, France-ARTEMA, Germany-VDMA, Italy-ASSOFLUID, Norway-HPF, Holland-FEDA, Poland, the United Kingdom-BFPA, the Czech Republic-CAHP, Romania-FLUIDAS, Russia-FPA, Slovenia-FTS, Spain-AIFTOP, Sweden-HPF, Switzerland-GOP and SWISSMEM, Turkey-AKDER) and in the presence of international delegates from the USA, China, Taiwan and Japan.      Also, on the same day, the show will host the International Fluid Power Summit, organized by ASSOFLUID, where the principal world associations of fluid power industry will examine and discuss the global economic prospects of the market. ASSOFLUID will also hold a tutorial on the new 2006/42/EC machinery Directive that came into force last December.

Pre-registration and admission to the show
All trade visitors may request their admission pass to the shows of Technology Exhibitions Week, free of charge, simply by completing the online registration form at www.fieremostre.it. Pre-registration is the best way to skip accreditation procedure and time-wasting waits at the reception. Admission pass gives access to all three TEW shows and to Xylexpo.
