Mr. P.V. Krishna joins IEEMA as Director General

Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) - the apex body for the Indian power equipment manufacturing industry has appointed Mr. P.V. Krishna as its Director General. He will be taking over from the current incumbent, Mr. S.P. More on 1St July 2010.

Mr. P.V. Krishna, a graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay of 1975 batch, also holds Masters in Management from IIM Calcutta. He started his professional career with NELCO, in their Industrial Electronic Systems division. Thereafter he worked with Jyoti Ltd., Baroda in their Switchgear division for 19 years mainly in Transmission & Distribution product range followed by a 12 year stint at Wärtsilä, a Finnish company best known in India for its role as a leader in Captive Power Plants for industries, and liquid fuel & natural gas based IPPs. Since 1998, Mr. P.V. Krishna has been a member of IEEMA’s Executive Council, having been elected for 12 consecutive terms.

As an Executive Council member, he is known for his balanced insights, comprehensive analysis, goal orientation and, above all, a passionate dedication to all that IEEMA stands for. He has also been a member of the last three ELECRAMA organizing committees. Mr. Krishna has presented papers at several conferences and seminars in the area of Power and energy, and is known for his advocacy for decentralized electricity generation as the most effective method of rapid generating capacity addition, efficiency improvement, overall loss reduction, and mitigating the problem of global warming.

And also its deployment as a key method of solving the chronic power shortages and power cuts in India. He was one of the expert speakers at the International Conclave organized by the CEA in August 2009 on Key Inputs required for the implementation of 11th and 12th Plans for the Power Sector.

After a career spanning 33 years with Industry in India, P V Krishna joined IEEMA as the Director General from 7th June 2010. Krishna’s association with IEEMA goes back to the ‘80s. When, as co-author of a paper at SWICON 1988, he urged a review of the practice of over specifying technical requirements of MV switchgear.

A few years later he joined as a member in IEEMA’s Switchgear and Controlgear Division in 1992/93. He represented Jyoti Ltd, best known as an iconic diversified engineering company championing the cause of indigenous development of cutting edge technology during the ‘70s and ‘80s. He was an active member with this Division till he left Jyoti at the end of 1997. Since 1998, Krishna has been a member of IEEMA’s Executive Council, starting soon after his move to Wärtsilä, a Finnish company best known in India for its role as a leader in Captive Power Plants for industries, and liquid fuel & natural gas based IPPs.

He was elected to IEEMA’s Executive Council for 12 consecutive terms. As an Executive Council member, he is known for his balanced insights, comprehensive analysis, goal orientation and, above all, a passionate dedication to all that IEEMA stands for. He has also been a member of the last three Elecrama organizing committees. Readers of IEEMA Journal would also recognize him as the Chairman of the IJ Advisory Committee during 2005-2008, during which time he guided IJ through a major makeover. During his tenure as head of Wärtsilä’s Power Plants business in India, he was an outspoken advocate about the use of decentralised electricity generation as the most effective method of rapid generating capacity addition, efficiency improvement, overall loss reduction, and mitigating the problem of global warming. And also its deployment as a key method of solving the chronic power shortages and power cuts in India.

He has presented papers at several conferences and seminars on the subject of Energy. He was also one of IEEMA’s speakers at the International Conclave to draw inputs for the 11th and 12th Plans organized by the CEA in August 2009.Between his graduation from IIT Bombay in 1975 in Electrical Engineering, and his Masters in Management from IIM Calcutta in 1978, Krishna worked for a year with NELCO in their Industrial Electronic Systems division. In Krishna we hence see a person who has straddled the spectrum of activities that IEEMA represents – Power Generation, T&D and Industrial Electronics!
