  • The Govt of Karnataka plans 1,000-acre aerospace zone planned near Devanahalli airport. So far, land has been acquired by the State agency Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board in this regard. The zone comprises of MRO units and 250 acre of an export-oriented aerospace SEZ.

  • AAI in association with the Mizoram government plans to construct the second airport at Kawmzawl, about 25km from the state’s second biggest town of Lunglei. The length of this small airport will be 750 metre and its width is estimated at 150 metre.

  • AAI plans to develop the Biju Patnaik Airport into an international airport. The construction work of the new domestic terminal is likely to start in April 2010. The new terminal will have a capacity to handle 800 passengers, which includes 400 incoming and 400 outgoing passengers.

  • The construction is going on for the upgradation of the Chandigarh Airport. The upgradation is likely to be fi nished by March 2010. The new airport building would be able to accommodate 400 passengers at a time, which is more than four times its present capacity.

  • The modernisation of the Delhi Airport is on. The work on T3 - the new integrated terminal is going on at a frantic pace and is expected to open during July 2010. The terminal spread across 5.2 lakh square mtr will handle both domestic and international assengers targetting 60 million passengers a year initially and 100 million by 2030.

  • A second greenfi eld airport is being planned at Navi Mumbai under public-private partnership (PPP) mode with private sector partner getting 74% equity while Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Govt of Maharashtra (through City and Industrial Development Corporation or CIDCO) holding 13% each. CIDCO has completed 75 per cent of the land acq uisition and is awaiting the fi nal clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forest. CIDCO has already appointed legal, technical and fi nancial consultants for the project. Tenders will be invited in this regard within 6 months.

  • The Airport Authority of India is working on the modalities for the city side development and maintenance of cargo operation of Amritsar airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Bids will be invited shortly for private sector participation in this regard.

  • The company is setting up the country’s first aerotropolis at Andal, approximately 50 km from Kolkata. The West Bengal Government has recently handed over the second tranche of 515 acre of land for this project. So far, the company has received a total of 1049 acre of land. The preliminary work has started and the main construction activity will start by Feb end.

  • The company plans to start construction of a new terminal building T2. The fi rst phase of terminal T2 will cater to passenger traffi c of 15 million per annum, over 59.6 per cent more passengers. Design for the new terminal building will be selected through a global bidding process involving world’s leading architects.

  • Plans for a night landing facility for Bagdogra airport. Bagdogra will be equipped with CAT 3 night vision facility that will enable pilots to have clear visibility of 50 mtr at night.The land acquisition process is on.

  • The company has signed a Project Development Agreement with the Govt of Karnataka for development of airside and other city side commercial amenities at Bijapur Airport spread on 727.04 acre. The Airside development will include a Terminal bldg spanning 2500 sq m designed to handle 100 passengers during peak hour, a 1700Mx30M dimension runway to support ATR 72 range aircrafts, aprons, taxiways, hangers, isolated parking bay, an air traffi c control tower with a height of 15M, Ground Support Equipment, fuel form and fi re station. The city side development comprise an Aviation Engineering College, a Pilot Training Institute, which consists of Helicopter training facilities, Gliding Club, Hotel with about 50 rooms and cold storage facility in Phase I. So far, land acquisition is on. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.
