At the recent Future CCTV Forum 2010 which took place from 19 to 20 April 2010, Sony showcased a comprehensive line-up of market leading High Definition (HD) products and solutions for the security industry. Joining a host of key industry leaders at the two-day conference, Sony was a key presenter, hosting a talk and workshop discussing the trends and latest technologies in security surveillance.

As a speaker, Mark Franklin, Product Manager for Security Solutions, Business & Professional Products Asia Pacific Company (BPPA), Sony Electronics Asia-Pacific presented illuminating insights on the implementation of HD surveillance systems and how to maintain costs and sensitivity, while meeting the challenge of today’s Higher Definition systems. At the workshop, he led a lively discussion focusing on the capabilities and advantages of smart surveillance, as well as integration and migration to bring systems up to date.

“As the demand for video security systems increases, so does the need for HD. Customers are increasingly turning to Sony for intelligent HD surveillance systems which gives ultra high resolution images, improve video surveillance and cost-effectiveness, while minimising personnel requirements and human error,” said Yoshikazu Hirano, General Manager, for Security Solutions, Business & Professional Products Asia Pacific
Company (BPPA), Sony Electronics Asia-Pacific. “Being at the forefront of nextgeneration surveillance technologies, Sony is well positioned to meet the demand for advanced security surveillance applications in this ever-changing global environment”.

Aside from the conference and workshops, Sony displayed a comprehensive range of its security products and solutions at the exhibition. This included the new HD network security cameras SNC-CH140, SNC-DH140 and SNC-DH180 from the V-Series IPELA range. Incorporating the latest technologies such as View-DR, XDNR (eXcellent Dynamic Noise Reduction) and Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture (DEPA) Advanced, the cameras offer integrators and end users the highest quality HD images even in the most challenging environments. Sony’s superior picture quality can be attributed to innovations such as its View-DR technology. With View-DR technology, the camera uses an electronic shutter to capture multiple images, to reproduce each frame. As a result, View-DR nearly doubles the sensitivity compared to conventional Wide-D technologies, as a live demonstration at the Sony booth clearly showed. Dark areas are brightened considerably and bright spaces are toned down in the image to create a balanced, high contrast image. This technology helps the users to see details in the images, even with extreme backlight conditions. To showcase its capabilities and advantages of its next generation HD video security surveillance solutions, Sony also conducted live demonstrations at its booth for visitors to experience first-hand the difference between Standard (SD) video and Sony’s HD video security technologies. This simple yet effective demonstration highlighted the dramatic difference in image quality, resolution and area surveillance of Sony’s cutting-edge HD video security technologies compared to SD.
